When I did B-School a few years back, I remember Marie Forleo talking a lot about ‘multi-passionate’ entrepreneurs. People who just LOVED doing lots of different things and had trouble nailing down one thing to focus on for their business.
The trouble was I didn’t see myself as having any passions. Let me preface this: When I say ‘passion’ I mean a desire so great you have to go after it. A big dream. A soul-deep need. A thing you could do all day every day. Well, at least, that’s what I used to class a passion as. I’ll come back to this.
So I didn’t think I had a passion, let alone multiple passions. But I did have something I was good at, something I had been university educated in and had real-life experience working in. That something is communications.
So that’s what I based my business idea around.
Somewhere along the line, my definition of passion started to evolve. Maybe a passion didn’t have to be earth-moving. Perhaps a passion was a simpler thing. Something that naturally brought about joy (not champagne-popping joy, but more like a sense of soulful satisfaction). Something that organically appears in your life that you can then choose to cultivate.
So, armed with my new definition, I became multi-passionate in business. In tandem with my communications and marketing work, I now also teach yoga and educate in essential oils. At the heart of each of these things is my love of connection and teaching. My penchant for living a better, simpler and more joyful life – so that is what I share through all of my work.
While it seems like I have tied my three ‘jobs’ up with a pretty pink bow, the reality, of course, is not so tidy. The facts of self-employment (check out my post about the parts no one usually sees) still exist and I still sometimes struggle with finding my personal brand of balance between these three things.
But, what I especially enjoy about my work-life is the diversity of my days. No longer am I chained to my desk, going goggle-eyed at my computer screen all day every day. Instead, I get to move my body and get paid for it! Sniff and share beautiful essential oils and get rewarded for it! And, of course, still, sit at my desk and write the words like I always have, and find more joy in that because I’m not doing as much of it.
So without further ado, I’m going to share with you a little snippet of my week. I also occasionally share my days via Instagram story if you wanted to see more behind the scenes action.

My guiding beliefs
Quit looking for your life purpose. Instead, move towards what feels right/joyful/fun/satisfying. Not necessarily knowing where that may lead.
Be okay with moving through stuff that doesn’t feel good on the way to something that does. Know that sometimes we have to experience something we don’t like to know we don’t actually like it!
Appreciate that life is not always on a forwards trajectory, we can take detours anytime we like. Be willing to change your mind, your definitions and your direction.
Tell me, are you also a multi-passionate person in business/life?
