A few months back I shared exactly what essential oils I use on a day to day basis on my Instagram Story (come say hi over there too!). It wasn’t till I whipped my phone out to capture each time I used an oil, that I realised just how much I actually lean on these guys. My whole day is supported by oils, from waking in the morning to falling asleep at night.
So, I thought I’d share what a day of essential oils looks like for me over here on the blog. I’m simply sharing how I use the oils on a typical day, not telling you this is how you should be using yours. Nor am I saying you need to have ALL the oils I have (but, seriously, you’ll want to after you get hooked). I’m sharing for the sake of sharing. So you can get some ideas on how to integrate essential oils into your daily routine too.
Here we go:
6:30 AM – Wake up and fill my 1-litre water bottle at the tap. Drop in around 3 drops of the Active Blend (citrusy and spicy – perfect to give your metabolism a boost). I’ll drink this whole thing before and after my morning medi in bed, or after a sweaty yoga class.
7:30 AM – Depending on how I started my day, I might jump into the shower. Post-shower I’ll use my regular moisturiser followed by GoTo Face Hero (a facial oil, that I add a few drops of Frankincense to) and top it off with the Topical Blend on any spots or problem areas. If I’m going to be wearing makeup that day, I’ll probably skip the GoTo/Frankincense blend as this is a bit heavy for me to have all day under foundation. I also use an essential oil based deodorant, so I’ll pop that on about now.
8 AM – Breakfast and a quick kitchen wipe down. After I eat I use a spray bottle filled with the Protective Blend cleaner concentrate and water. Safe and smells SO good. Don’t think I’ve forgotten to brush my teeth! Again, I use a toothpaste with the Protective Blend in it – smells so good!
8:30 AM – Get to work. If I’m working from home I’ll set my diffuser up with an uplifting or energising combo of oils. Maybe some Wild Orange, Peppermint and Ylang Ylang. I also have a little spritzer bottle on my desk filled with water and a few drops of Lavender, Tea Tree and Grapefruit oils. I use this throughout the day to keep cool and fresh – just spraying a mist over my face whenever I want.
12 PM – Lunch break! Once again, you’ll see me pull out the Protective Blend spray and wipe down after preparing and cooking my lunch. After lunch, I might mix up my diffuser blend for the arvo – Geranium, Frankincense and Lemon.
4 PM (ish) – I’ll wrap up work. If it’s been a long day at my desk and I’ve got some tension in my neck I’ll pull out my rollerball filled with the Tension/Headache blend. I’ll roll this on temples and the back of my neck to release. If I’m sore from yoga, I might also use some of the Soothing Blend wherever some discomfort is bugging me.
6 PM – Teaching a yoga class. I don’t teach every night, just a few times a week. I’ll use different oils depending on what I’m feeling called to. I tend to gravitate towards Peppermint oil (used before pranayama) or ending the class with Lavender or the Grounding blend on the feet or temples of my students.
7:30 PM – Home, dinner and kitchen clean up with my Protective blend spray (I also use this to clean down my bathrooms and other surfaces in my house).
8:30 PM – Let’s be honest, it’s time for a shower and bed! I’ll use the same products on my skin as I did in the morning. In my diffuser, I’ll probably use something like Lavender, or the Calming blend, mixed with Cedarwood, Vetiver and maybe some Clary Sage (especially around the time I have my period).
9 PM – I’ll mist Cheyne and I down with a mix of water, Vetiver, Lavender, Cedarwood and Clary Sage. I’ll also spray this onto our pillows. If one of us isn’t feeling 100% we might also put some Oregano or the Protective Blend onto the soles of our feet. If I’m feeling like I really need a good sleep, I’ll skip the spray and make an ‘aromatic dressing’ with some Vetiver and fractionated coconut oil. This will then be applied tip to toe (avoiding any holes, pits and bits!). It’s seriously magic stuff.
9:30 – 10 PM – Sleep!
I hope this post inspired you to use your oils in a different or new way! Or maybe gave you a couple of ideas for some diffuser blends. Let me know if you have any questions about my essential oil routine in the comments below.
